Hotel Ballymun A hotel on the top floor of a disused tower block in a once neglected suburb of north Dublin. For the project I was commissioned, along with Sticks Furniture, by Seamus Nolan to facilitate furniture workshops with local individuals and to develop a suitable interior for the hotel. Our aim was produce an interior and collection of furniture that told a story and gave the hotel a strong local identity.

Our sole source of materials was all that had been left behind in the condemned tower. Over a period of fifteen days we scavenged through out the fourteen abandoned floors of the Clarke tower. Once gathered, the old furniture was choped, changed and rearranged as we endeavored to make the furniture wanted and working again. Together out of our workshop of chipboard, chaos and amputated furniture we produced a collection of over 90 pieces of re-imagined, mutant, foraged furniture.

A casual yet considered anthology of objects and furniture created from indigenous materials and produced by the rejuvenating energy of the local community.

Clarke tower will be demolished in August 2007.
